Battles - La Di Da Di
Battles - La Di Da Di
This is being touted as Battles’ first fully instrumental album, but the vocals on their previous albums were rarely the focal point. They were just another instrument, another texture in the weird, wonderful whole.
It’s okay to miss the crazy vocal textures, but you shouldn’t let it blind you to the fact that this record rocks.
This is easily the best instrumental record I’ve heard since starting YDR. Most electronic releases these days are too minimal to bear for very long, which has always confused me. If you’re going to remove an element (vocals), surely there should be a corresponding increase in the complexity of the textures and melodies, right? So few records seem to get that right.
Anyway, this is one of those few. Have a listen.
Highlights: Summer Summer • Non-Violence • Luu Le
