Lana Del Rey - Honeymoon
Lana Del Rey - Honeymoon
This is her best album.
Yep. She achieves greatness here by pulling back the R&B and modern pop influences and revealing the core of her sound: the traditional vocal pop of the ‘50s and ‘60s.
She’s always been a crooner, but its never been as apparent as it is on Honeymoon. Cinematic strings, subtle vocal harmonies, flecks of jazz instrumentation: it all coalesces into a sweeping melancholy sound that suits Del Rey’s songwriting and vocals better than any backing ever has.
I’ve never been a Lana super-fan, but I’ve never been one of her haters either. I thought her last two albums were both very good, if not great. There were some great songs on both, but this is her first release that feels complete.
