Saintseneca - Such Things

Saintseneca - Such Things

Does music need to be groundbreaking in order to be good? Does it need to differentiate itself from popular trends in order to stand out? Obviously there are countless great records that would seem to affirm the truth of that notion. But is it a hard and fast rule?

I’d argue no.

And as evidence, I present Saintseneca’s Such Things, a record that takes on nearly ever facet of modern popular indie rock and pop, and ends up sounding better than all of it.

Heavily orchestrated and layered production, folkish textures, big choral climaxes, it’s all here. But there’s a reason those elements came to dominate indie rock radio, and Saintseneca will remind you what it is.

What makes this album rise above those trappings is the incredibly tight songwriting. Zac Little utilizes his sheer talent and craftsmanship to squeeze every drop of energy, dynamism, and nuance left in these tropes - and he’s made something fantastic out of them.

A great pop record. It’s streaming below via Bandcamp.

Highlights: Such Things • Sleeper Hold • River
