All Them Witches - Sleeping Through The War
All Them Witches - Sleeping Through The War
All Them Witches take old fashioned Southern and blues rock, they update it with noise and feedback, and then they deliver it with punkish attitude. They've gotten pretty good at it, putting out a steady stream of solid releases over the years. But I don't think it's a stretch to say that Sleeping Through The War is an enormous step forward for the band. Never before has their brand of psychedelic Americana had this much ability to surprise and shock. The sharp edges of their music have become jagged and white hot.
There's a confidence to this music that elevates it above pretty much any hard rock release I've heard this year. The vocals have a cool, matter of fact defiance to them. The guitars roar and buzz and wail. It's got some darkness to it, but over all it's just fun as hell.
Well worth a listen. It's the Witches' best release by a mile, and one of the best things I've heard in 2017.
