Gramma’s Boyfriend - Perm

Gramma’s Boyfriend - Perm

These ones are my favourites. The ones I have no reason to expect to be good.

A band I’ve never heard of, with a silly name, and with only one (mixed) review to it’s name. This could have been easily washed away with the flood of releases that I sample every week. But real talent always distinguishes itself from mediocrity. (I only later found out that the singer is Haley Bonar).

Gramma’s Boyfriend are a Minneapolis based band. Their music is a noisy, energetic, punkish indie rock - but with a healthy pop sensibility, and a few splashes of synth and funk. They deliver it with verve, tons of charm, and a sense of humour.

This isn’t a debut, but it has the feeling of one. If this band breaks, this will be the under-appreciated early album, one that’s discovered and loved after hearing the hits.

But you get to discover it now! It’s not perfect, but it’s really fun, and it’s streaming via Bandcamp below.
