Joan Shelley - Over And Even

Joan Shelley - Over And Even

What’s better for the end of summer than some melancholy, rustic folk music?

There’s a strange alchemical feeling to this record. The way the vocals and the instrumentals intertwine to produce a unique sort of quiet energy: it’s vaguely supernatural.

That’s a quality you find in a lot of the best folk records. From Dylan to Joni Mitchell to Laura Marling, there is a way that talented musicians can make just voice and guitar sound like a whole lot more.

And that fuzzy math produces some truly moving songs. Easy Now, for example, will have your heart in your throat. Or maybe just me. It’s lovely.

Highlights: Brighter Than The Blues • Over And Even • Easy Now
