Kairon; IRSE! - Ruination
Kairon; IRSE! - Ruination
Ready for a trip? Listen as a gently humming guitar picks out a folk-ish, looping melody. Hear the somber bassline, the dreamy, almost choral vocals. It sounds like a hymn for a while. It's calm, but it doesn't stay that way for long; in fits and starts, the roaring noise makes itself known, and then the wailing synths soon after. What seemed simple is now growing more and more complex. And you're only half way through the first track.
It's hard to categorize K;I!'s music, it seems to lie across many different borders. Shoegaze, post-rock, heavy psychedelia, space rock, progressive? It's tempting to call it krautrock, but the band comes from Finland. What's obvious is that they know how to craft a mood. There's a sense of wonderment and awe - a feeling of approaching something unutterable or unknowable, something alien.
So yeah, it's a trip. A real journey. And it's from one of the most criminally under-heard bands in heavy music. So have a listen.
