Neon Indian - Vega Intl. Night School
There comes a point when an artist has incorporated so many influences into their music that you just have to admit that they’ve created something new.
I could list the immense number of borrowed sounds that I hear on this album (possibly hundreds?), but that would miss the point, and it wouldn’t make for very interesting reading. So I’ll just say that this sounds like what I imagine contemporary music would sound like if all music prior to 1981 was erased from history and from memory.
I’ll also say that the electronics on this album are breathtakingly progressive even as they shape themselves into pop tunes. And they still evoke the early ‘80s somehow.
Highly recommended. And streaming in full below via Neon Indian’s YouTube channel.
