Deerhunter - Fading Frontier
Deerhunter - Fading Frontier
Most great bands have defined sounds. Sonic signatures that are consistent across releases. They evolve, but they never change completely. For some artists, even if you took out the vocals, their albums released decades apart are recognizably by the same people.
Deerhunter doesn’t care about that. Deerhunter is whatever it wants to be.
They’ve done garage rock, psychedelic, post punk, blues rock, Eno-esque ambient pop, noise rock, krautrock, and a lot more. They mix and match their vast ocean of influences into a new sound for every record. And this one is no exception.
Deerhunter seem to be going for a more mellow, classic, and approachable tone on Fading Frontier. They’ve always ultimately been a great pop band, but it’s never been more clear than it is on this release.
It’s hard to say at this point where it fits in the band’s catalog, I’m still trying to decide if I like it better than Monomania.
But it's a great record. Listen below.
Highlights: Breaker • Take Care • Snakeskin
