Petite Noir - La Vie Est Belle / Life Is Beautiful

Petite Noir - La Vie Est Belle / Life Is Beautiful

This record is fully-formed and cohesive. The instrumentation is strong across the board and the production is top-notch, with deep, complex textures for every song. His vocals are strong as well, reminding me of Depeche Mode and Tears For Fears. All the ingredients for a great record are here.

But none of that really matters, because of what this record really does right: it creates a unique sound and style. One that’s fully deserving of the self-coined name that Petite Noir has given it: Noirwave.

That’s a damn good name for it, considering that his style splits the difference between the ‘80s new wave and African pop music. But that kind of reductive description does the music a disservice in this case.

You should really listen to it. Stream below.
