Real Estate - In Mind
Some relaxed and subtly layered jangle pop from the current masters of the form. Like all of Real Estate's music, it's got that simmering energy that soft and sleepy music so often lacks. There's always some new point of interest that emerges and then disappears as quickly as it arrived. That ephemeral nature is by design, of course - and Real Estate are close to top form here. It's not quite as perfect as Atlas was, but it's close.
There's more synth on this record than I think they've used before. It doesn't change the sound that much (big changes aren't really what a band like Real Estate is about, after all), but it's there, and it adds another texture to add to the gently whirling mix of chiming guitar melodies.
Basically, whether you like Real Estate or not, this record will not change your opinion. And if you haven't heard a Real Estate record before, give it a try.
