Savages - Adore Life
Savages - Adore Life
An excellent follow-up to Silence Yourself. While this album could never have the same explosive effect on the listener that their debut had - those who are calling it a sophomore slump are wrong.
It’s a matter of expectations, those who were hoping to get their faces ripped off like they did with the first record instead were given something less raw, and more subdued. Something that leans in to the smokier, more haunting side of their sound - which was present on the debut, but as more of an undercurrent to the punkish energy.
What has not changed is the fantastic songwriting and performances. I’d say Jehnny Beth has even improved as a vocalist on this record - or maybe she’s just using a different part of her instrument, I don’t know.
Anyway, it’s different, but I’d argue it’s nearly as great. And that’s saying a lot.
