Blanck Mass - World Eater

Blanck Mass - World Eater

There's a lot of denseness and complexity to Blanck Mass's newest release, but it's not as daunting a challenge as one would think. There's a focus on melody here that didn't really come to the fore on previous releases. More bewitching and hypnotic synth-lines that draw you in to this album's world of mechanical beats and industrial rhythms. It's shockingly pretty at times.

Another element that makes this album more inviting than most industrial electronica: the frequent inclusion of vocal samples. Little flecks of the human voice, used as texture, or rhythm, or tune. It provides a point of connection amidst the frantic and wild progressions. This record has climaxes built on climaxes, and surprises on surprises. The production is just about perfect, and entirely gorgeous.

It slows down for some more ambient tracks towards the end, but even those have a great deal to offer. World Eater is easily the best wholly electronic album of 2017 so far.
