Cindy Lee - Diamond Jubilee
Cindy Lee - Diamond Jubilee
A massive and incredible collection of guitar pop. Every one of these 32 tracks is perfect in its own way.
The songs here are, at their core, vibrant, sparkling and melodic. A scintillating fusion of alt-country, disco, and psychedelia. But it’s all filtered through this spooky lo-fi haze.
I don’t think I’ve ever heard a record use the atmosphere and sound of a lo-fi recording process so masterfully as a musical element. There’s nothing amateurish about it - everything that might seem imperfectly recorded is clearly purposeful, and utilized to maximum effect.
Sure, these songs might be just as catchy and enjoyable if they were polished and precise in the way that we expect studio-recorded music to be. But you can’t deny the feeling that’s being created here. These songs warp and echo in an undeniably haunting way. This is the ghost of a great record. And somehow as a phantom, it’s greater still.
This one deserves a lot more attention than it’s getting so far. Here’s hoping that it gets its flowers.
