Drahla - Angeltape

Drahla - Angeltape

Drahla specialize in a shadowy angular discordant strain of post-punk. Reminiscent of Joy Division, Gang of Four, and as Luciel Brown’s vocals go: the Waitresses.

It’s amazing how much innovation they extract out of this tried-and-true palette of sounds. Spiky guitars, echoing bass, deadpan sung-spoken lyrics, dissonant saxophone - this has all been done before, but Drahla are doing it a bit differently here. There’s an emphasis on surprise and change in the music, they’re not content to stay in one place for very long. Nearly every song here has multiple change-ups or unique sonic elements. It’s exhilarating.

This is a good one. Streaming below via Bandcamp.
