Still Corners - Dream Talk
Still Corners - Dream Talk
They’ve come a long way from their Strange Pleasures.
I remember being a pretty big fan of Still Corners’ best known album. I also remember being way more psychedelic and shoegazey. Dream Talk in contrast is cinematic and sophisticated.
There’s a sense of restraint to Still Corners’ music on this album. Normally what would be called dream pop is usually pretty lush and layered, but this record takes a slightly different approach to the genre. The music hear emerges clear and crystal out of a dark and quiet night. Each sound, each instrument has the space to whisper, shout or sing.
This overarching sense of simplicity and minimalism might disguise what’s really going on here. Which is a showcase in the fundamentals of songcraft. Good stuff.
