The Klittens - Butter

The Klittens - Butter

It seems like a lot of the best releases this week are EPs. I don’t really have anything to say about that, but it’s interesting to me.

This particular EP is from a Netherlands-based indie-pop band. And it’s a jaunty and joyful experience.

There’s a lot of punkish energy here. It’s lo-fi. It’s ramshackle. But ultimately very well put-together. These girls know how to make a song, even if they don’t care to add layers of production polish to it. And there’s a charm to that kind of ethos, one that I often find myself attracted to.

There’s some interesting synth and saxophone parts that really add something to the off-kilter, casual, quirky style of this music. Then there’s prickly, rhythmic bursts of guitar that evoke that particular post-punk sound of bands like the Au Pairs. The vocals are sometimes frantically chanted, sometimes lazily sung.

It’s good! I like it! And it’s short, so it won’t take you long to have a listen.
