I don’t know enough about Elbow to say whether Audio Vertigo is typical of their sound. While I’ve been vaguely aware of Elbow as a band that’s been around for a while and that people generally like, I’m not sure if I’ve ever actively tried to listen to them until listening to this record. But if this one is anything to go by, I have a treat of a back catalogue to get through.
The sound of Audio Vertigo is indie rock slathered in layers of electronic funk. Incredibly well produced; every vocal, instrument and sound has enough space to maximally impactful. It’s so refreshing to hear a band that so clearly knows what they’re doing and what they want to achieve.
And the songs. Such perfect pop songs! Hooks for days! This record is great back to front, I don’t think I could name a dull moment.
