Julia Holter - Something In The Room She Moves

Julia Holter - Something In The Room She Moves

She returns! Julia Holter is one of a handful of bonafide musical geniuses working in pop (?) music today. Her music toes the line between neo-classical and jazz, and the line between ambient and folk. It tiptoes so gently and gracefully along these lines that her music sounds like something completely new.

This is certainly more avant-garde than the last record of hers I posted here back in 2015. And there were more than a few times that I was reminded of the music of Vangelis. So Julia continues to evolve. But overall, she stays true to her sound.

I always compare Julia Holter’s music to water. It’s just full of these gently overlapping melodies that demand the comparison.

It ripples and flows. It blends and swirls. It crashes and breaks, and recedes again. There’s a shimmering surface to it, with untold depths beneath.

It’s beautiful. It’s necessary. It’s life itself.
