Tindersticks - The Waiting Room

Tindersticks - The Waiting Room

Tindersticks are an iconoclastic alt-pop band that started up in the ‘90s, which sounds like it would be right up my alley: but I’ve never listened to one of their albums in full before now (although I was certainly aware of them). If this is what one of their later releases sounds like, I’m sure I’ll be digging in to their classics pretty soon.

Although - it did take me a few listens to get on this record’s wavelength. They are iconoclastic after all, and they aren’t particularly interested in conforming to anyone’s idea of a pop song except their own. And I can imagine the vocals could be a taste that needs to be acquired for some people.

But it yields rewards for dedicated listeners. Meticulously arranged, unusual, haunting, sometimes a bit jazzy - it’s well worth a listen. Once this album clicked for me, I got chills.
