Ty Richards - Zillion

Here's a fun one. Ty Richards is most definitely a student of the masters of contemporary pop-rock like Deerhunter, Spoon, and most noticably: Beck. To that effect he's crafted an album that's focused on feel-good grooves and pleasing pop structures, filled with buzzing guitars and sparkling synths. If you're looking for something upbeat, this will scratch that itch.

There's a sense of the tongue-in-cheek to Richards' laidback vocal style, but it's clearly just a pleasing affectation. He's a bona fide music nerd - one with a deep appreciation for his influences. In service to that devotion, he executes his songs with a razor-sharp pop sensibility, taking even his most silly songs seriously.

I'm happy I stumbled across this one. A solid recommendation for a solid album.
